Retro Style Helmet

This a motorbikers helmet or perhaps horse riding helmet, maybe both, could not say for sure as it came to me free

The 2 tone leather with white stitching gives a retro styling, particularly if it's intended as a motorbiker helm. 

It would look good with a pair of goggles to finish the look.

I have a similarly finished hat, but that was more military styling and not well made enough to be proper protection.

 

Havelock with Pompom

Havelocks were originally created for military use, but they are also used to decorate other helmets, this particular havelock was designed to decorate kids riding helmets.

However, because it was a kids helmet cover it was cheap and allowed me to take a few photos and explain a bit about a havelock.

It also came with pompons which you could press stud onto the top.  

Not sure if I could argue a case for use of pompoms for military use

Bowler or Derby

I was recently informed my Bowler hat was in fact a Derby, now I always believed Bowler, Derby and its many other names Coke Hat, Boxer, Billy Cock, were all names for the same thing and for all useful purpose bar riding they still are.

The Bowler was first made and designed in 1850 by William Bowler for Sir William Coke for head protection when riding. The Derby got its name when the 12th Earl of Derby visited the United States in a hat of this style in 1880 and created a fashion there, so could be classed as the America name for Bowler.

Anyway if your looking for a difference a Bowler is hard and rigid, while the dome of the Derby Hat can be bent easily with the fingers, both are the same shape. 

This hat is therefore a derby bowler.

Velvet Riding Hat

I own this Helmet after spending about year having riding lesson in the vain hope of becoming a Jouster.

Before I got anywhere near even a basic rider  I fell off a horse straight on to rigid fence at a canter, ambulanced to the hospital no fractures to my ribs where found but it was 6 months before I could lie on that side of body and I never went back to riding apart from the odd pony trek while on holiday.
I think good riders start young, and own their own horse and stables or train full time such as for the Queens life guards.

This is certified riding helmet velvet covered in the equestrian style, although modern helmets are much more practical, this one is now 25 year old.

This style of this riding helmet is called a Hunt Cap.
