Unexpected Hat Haul

Earlier in the week, I bid on a pile of hats, a made a rock bottom bid not expecting to win, although among the 11 hats I had spotted 4 hats that looked worth having.

Anyway, I won.

When I received the parcel, I found really only 2 were worth the bid (hidden at the bottom of this pile), a couple more may find a use, overall worth the low bid, but glad I did not bid more.

One I photographed but was only worthy of the bin, the green one above.

Those in the photo above are from a King and I theatre production, I'm not sure yet what to do with, some need a bit of TLC, I will photograph them before they go or use comes to mind

Hat Haul

"You won with a £31.98 bid" is not always good thing until you get the items however when you manage to get a job lot of hats eBay for a reasonable price you hope to get at least a few that make the bid worth it.

This bunch of 20 odd hats worked out to about £ 1.50 each

However out the selection, only 12 were worth keeping and only 9 would I have bought separately, even so, that still about £ 3.50 each which is still a bargain and of those at least 2 of which I would have paid £10 plus to buy individually.

Of the bad are these Mikey mouse ears and heart-shaped deely boppers

Along with the eye patch and foil wrapped cardboard Egyptian style circlet, these were all part of the giveaways

In the good pile several woolen, felt and cloth caps that were well made and well worth it.

Then we have those that fall between, the female headdress below was children's size so given away.

The Red Indian style headband is a bit rubbish but I ended up keeping it

Overall in the good box, I got an excellent felt fez, 3 muffin caps, 2 pillbox/smoking caps, a musketeers hat, another fabric fez and a skull cap, plus in the ok pile a jester hat, the red Indian headband above and sequined bandanna

Hat Shopping at Tewkesbury

I have visited Tewkesbury Medieval Festival since they started in 1980's.

Originally it was bit crap, more of dark ages hippy fun day out, but over time it got less a less Arthurian legend and medieval olympics and more about a re-enactment of the 1471 wars of the roses battle.

The quality of event, scale, authenticity and attention to detail has improved vastly.

One thing didn't change much and that is fair and market that runs alongside the battle which is still a mixture of new age crystal healing sellers, re-enactment kit merchants and hog roast.

I last went to the battle as a medieval re-enactor in 2006, but I have still visited almost every year since, but I now sit back and enjoy the spectacle and do a bit of hat shopping.

This year I bought a bycocket, a reversible acorn hat, and tall straw hat which you will see me wear on this blog at some point in the future.
