Kabuto

Kabuto or Samurai Helmet

This is Kabuto is a theatrical mock-up made of lightweight plastic-like materials.

kabuto was made by combining dozens of thin iron plates around a central dome, usually iron but sometimes moulded and lacquered paper

Like medieval helmets they were often decorated with a crest, this one is themed around a rabbit.

Kabuto 1st appeared in the 10th Century

Diving Helm

A steam punk based diving helm.

This helmet is homemade, constructed from high-density foam and a clear plastic dome.

The construction involved lots of contact adhesive but was relatively simple in shape and form, preformed foam hexagons help decorate the construction

The final result was then painted with flexithane paint mixed with brass powder pigment.

I finally added a couple of pieces of flexible plastic conduit sprayed with brass paint to provide the helmet's mock air supply.

Corinthian Helmet

This is a Copy of a Corinthian helmet that was used from 8thC BC to 1stC AD

The helmet was worn by Greek Hoplites (Greek Citizen Soldiers) and got its name from Corinthia, an ancient Greek city-state.

The helmet would have been made from bronze, this copy is made of pressed steel and coloured to look the part.

Not all Corinthian helmets have plumes however this copy does, this would have been made of horsehair.

This helmet is not mine as it was donated to our club.

Fireman's Helmet

Fighfighters helmets were introduced in the 1830's to help protect them against falling cinders and debris

The firefighter's helmet was originally made of leather, then brass, then cork, then steel, then aluminium, then thermoplastic, then a composite of all sorts of materials each adding different protection against hazard a modern firefighter might face

In the 1930's as electricity became a hazard so brass was abandoned and cork helmets with a rubber coating were introduced as this one.

Metal military-style helmets came back in world war II

Helmet at least in the UK are yellow, but some countries the colour is used to denote rank in the fire service.

This helmet was purchased from an auction site, is very tatty some of the finish as worn off, but it was a bargain purchase.

Roman Style Helm

This helmet was found in a bring and buy at larp fayre and came with the arming cap in the previous post to this.

The steel helmet reminds me in shape of an ancient Roman helmet, with its plume holder at the top, lacking the plume, perhaps it should have neck and face/ear guard plates as well, but the seller had no idea of its origin and neither do I

The helmet does come complete with a nose guard and thin leather drape to the back of the neck which would protect against sunburn, but not much else.

I will at some point add a nice feather plume to the top of the helmet if future me finds a use for this.

Overall considering the price and condition a good purchase.

Morion Helmet

The Morion helmet is from the 16th and 17th Centuries. Also known in England as the pikeman's pot.

The crest along the top is designed to strengthen the helmet, its normally open face and wide-brimmed and from periods when gunpowder weapons were coming into common use.

Later versions added cheek and neck guards to protect against sword swings at the head.

In England, it is associated with the New Model Army, one of the first professional militaries. It was worn mainly by pikemen, although unarmoured musketeers also adopted it.

It's also commonly associated with the Spanish Conquistadors and the conquest of the Inca's by the Spanish.

As well as the exploration of much of America's, several were found in Jamestown

The morion is still used by some ceremonial military units such as the guards of the Vatican

This copy is a fibreglass so purely decorative and not suitable for battle reenactment, but good lrp and theatre.

This was a great Christmas gift from friends.

Foam Fantasy Helmet

This helmet is pure fantasy.

Made from foam glued together, cut, shaped and eventually covered in latex.

It has many elements from a greek hoplite's plumed helmet, but the rest are creative additions by the maker to give a striking look.

This fantasy helmet as been part of Ascendancy LRP kit for a while, not sure what it was made for or when it was made.

Russian Headgear

This is sold as Russian Tank commanders hat or helmet

A quick bit of research would suggest however its a paratroopers helmet worn by the airborne division of Russian Army during parachute drops. The Russian airborne division is heavily mechanised and they do drop vehicles with people inside them unlike most other armies, so perhaps it's both.

I normally consider helmets as a rigid head covering, this one, however, is a soft helmet, heavily padded in the ribs to protect you against impacts with hard surfaces.

The helmet is not mine and normally left at the entry stair to the owner's attic room which has many low beams so is ideal headwear.
