Black Hat

 

This black hat is a chaotic mess of fabric loosely sewn together to form a turban-like headpiece.

This is one of those hats I struggle to categorise, found unloved in a sales box at a kit fair.

I think maybe ladies hat.

The hat also feels like something somebody might wear to a funeral.

Muffin Bonnet

 This very bright magenta coloured hat is constructed like a muffin cap with a lot of access fabric fixed to a headband.

There is so much extra fabric however that the headband is hidden, plus it all crinkly and uneven so I can't really call it a muffin cap.

It kinda looks like a turban, also like a women slouchy baggy beanie, but it is none of those either

Maybe I could call it a Muffin bonnet.

But really this hat goes in the as yet uncategorised pile.

Worn with some equally bright colours to make it not look too ridiculous

Not a Octopus Hat

This hat was described as Octopus hat however the seller cannot count as it only has 6 legs, so should really be Hextopus Hat.

Found in the £5 squid bin at the TORM the original reenactors market

The seller apparently thought it was hat they would never sell, been on their stall for a long time.

Basically looks like they cut up a wide-brimmed felt hat for some reason.

To make a hat that fits into no particular bracket.

Not sure what sort of idiot would buy this hat.... wait I did.

Quilted Cap

This quilted peaked hat is little unusual as the crown sit quite high, like a baseball for someone with a lot of hair. 

I found this hat in a Sue Ryder charity shop in their retro section, it was with sited female apparel but to me it looks pretty unisex.

The hat sits comfortably and holds its shape well.

Arabian Barbute

Now I'm not sure this helmet as a real historical equivalent at all, although did find a few images of turbans wrapped around helmets.

Its open faced barbute in style, made from plastic with a plastic ring around the crown to give a turban style Arabic look and then painted.

The helm was found within a batch of theatre kit, unlabelled or marked so who knows what it was used for.

Now its part of larp kit.

Hexagonal Hat

This is one of those hats that falls into the category unknown, from a theatrical production, its has a Arabian Nights feel about it.

The hexagonal shape of this soft head covering is also odd, so far I've not found any images of anything similar to it.

It sits uncomfortable because of its design, resting too high on the crown of your head, but that adds to its unique look.

It also could have been for a male or female character, it seems to suit both.

Brown Hat

Now I'm not quite sure how to class this hat, its brim and size are typical of Homburg, but homburgs have a different crown, the crown is more pork pie style hat but pork pie hats have a much smaller brim and the crown tapers. 

Anyway its a brown felt hat.
