Balaclava

.A Balaclava is also called a Ski mask

Originally a knitted wool item they are now made of any stretchy material that will keep you warm and make the Balaclava fit snugly to the head and neck

Designed to cover the whole head and neck, exposing only eyes, nose and mouth (most of the time) it's designed for maximum warmth in cold conditions

The name Balaclava comes from the battle of Balaclava which took place in the Crimean war in 1854. They were never actually worn in the war as, despite the need by British troop fighting in the bitter cold, the headgear never arrived in time. Still, the name stuck.

The Balaclava was also known in the 19th century as the Uhlan cap worn by Polish and Prussian soldiers

Hat With Badge

This black fabric hat is a basic bag form with its edge rolled back on itself to form the brim.

It could fit many periods from Medieval or older to the present day.

Decorated with a metal badge, it gives it a more medieval feel, although the fabric is far from authentic for the period.

Red Decorated Sombrero

The Sombrero the traditional hat of Mexico

A Sombrero in Mexico is any wide-brimmed hat, although for most people outside the region it is also a hat with its brim upturned along its edge.

Its main function is the protection of the head and shoulders from the Sun.

Some like this one can end up highly decorated and are used by Mariachi folk music performers.

This I believe is a full Sombrero but in Mexico there are many types with names suchas Quinciano, Diechinueve, Veintiuno, Veintisiete, Traditional sombrero or modern sombrero.

Houngan Hat

This small top hat was a Christmas gift

The hat is decorated with bones and feathers giving it a distinct theme.

The theme in mind is Houngan Priest for the undead or Voodoo religion

I think it might look better with a more colourful headband, red maybe, so may swap this out in the future.

Rusty Red Wool Hat

A muffin style medieval hat.

Made from wool fabric.

This hat is more rusty red in real life than in the photos.

This hat was a freebie from a friend who was downsizing his costume hoard he had to create house space.

Photos were taken using my mobile phone which create a little bit of fish eye look

Fancy Posh Hat

This brown hat has lots of decoration

In the style of a muffin cap, i.e. a headband with baggy loose crown.

The hat includes a decorative fabric headband, decorative badges/beads around the headband with a large broach badge in the same style at the front.

a bunch of orange feathers behind the main badge and a lace-like fabric decorating the join between the headband and loose crown.

This feel like a posh nobles hat or at least the hat of someone who wants to appear wealthy.

It's even comfortable to wear.

Helicopter Hat

When you need to get somewhere quick you need a helicopter hat.

Powered by humour this hat will get you where you need to be as quick as you can walk, run or drive with the hat on, in fact, if you wore it on a plane you would travel as fast as the plane.

A rainbow-coloured baseball cap, it comes with a small plastic propeller held in place by several beads and wire.

A party hat, although I saw a lot Googley people wearing one in the film 'The Internship'

Hippy Wizards Hat

This Wizards or Witches hat is definitely one for the festival market.

Handmade from hemp and cotton and with a rainbow pattern around the brim and base of the crown

The hat has a wired brim to hold its shape.

Definitely a comfortable hat to wear, you could easily wear all day or just fold it up and stuff in a bag.

Also a good summer hat, the loose-knit provides plenty of ventilation.

Apparently handmade in Napal.
