Galactic Empire Cap

This hat is a novelty representation of an officer's cap in the Star Wars universe.

The rank of First Order in the Galactic Empire

The hat was originally purchased to be given away as a gift to a star wars fan, but unfortunately was not of good enough quality, so ended up in my junk hat pile.

Made of poor quality fabric over the foam to provide the shape, glued rather than stitched in places and complete with a badge that spikes through the foam into the forehead, making it almost impossible to wear. Avoid if you see it my recomendation.

Also, it looks grey in the advert, what came is black.

Better cosplay star wars hats are available although may cost a bit more would be worth it.

Glengarry hat

I found this bargain Scottish Glengary Hat on Etsy

Made of wool and excellent quality, it features a small pompom in the dip of the crown and black ribbon ready to receive a badge, plume or broach.

The Glengarry hat became the standard hat of Scottish regiments in the British Army around 1860.

Apparently, in the military, the hat should be worn steeply angled, something I did not do in these photos. When I look at other photos however most people seem to wear it straight like me.

A must for anyone who plays Bagpipers I think.

Dancing Pallbearers Hat

This hat or rather the dancing pallbearers that wear it gained fame after BBC news feature

According to Wikipedia the pallbearers who are from Ghana are locally referred to as the 'Nana Otafrija Pallbearing and Waiting Service.

The black hat is a typical foldable military field cap in its shape

I have no idea if this hat has an origin outside its fame as a hat worn by the dancing pallbearers, but I can only find it against cosplay adverts

This hat came to me via a friend who knows I collect hats and was enjoying the pallbearer memes on youtube.

Maroon Beret

This beret is deep maroon red.

Maroon berets are associated with Airbourne forces.

I found this hat in a giveaway box, it was quickly claimed by me, after all, collecting hats is what I do.

The original badge has been removed and replaced with a piece of yellow fabric.

Pictures were taken in the ruins of Ogmore Castle whilst on holiday

Blue Beret

This is a blue beret, the lighter blue, not the darker navy blue used by British naval forces.

The Blue Beret is use by various military and some police forces around the world

The most notable use is by UN peacekeeping forces.

In the photo below and start of this post, I'm using for a character in a post-apocalypse lrp

Beret are the best hats for military or revolutionary groups

Red Beret of this style is mainly worn by military police, commandos & paramilitary.

Red beret is also a term used to refer to British Parachute regiment although they wear a maroon coloured beret.

GI Side Cap

This is reproduction WW2 American GI side cap

Apparently GI originally meant military equipment made from galvanised iron in WW1, but eventually became anything that was army general issue or government issue and on from that became a word to describe a soldier from the United States of America.

This cap sport 3 stars which means I'm a commander.

This style of hat in the US can also be known as a Campaign cap, flight cap, garrison hat, fore-and-aft cap, envelope cap, overseas cap. It also has some less polite names one being piss-cutter.

Side Cap

A side cap is a fold-able military cap with straight sides, no brim and hollow crown which when worn forms a very distinctive shape.

In the UK its officially known as field service cap, in the US its called a garrison cap or flight cap.

The best feature of this cap is can easily be folded into a pocket, over the belt or under the shoulder strap of a military uniform.

This cap sports a Russian badge so probably from a Russian unit but since I found it at cat boot I no idea for sure.

Tam O'shanter

A Tam O'Shanter is flat cap distinguished by woollen ball on top of the cap

The woollen ball, mini pom-pom is also called a Toorie and adorns many Scottish military or Highland dress.

Originally a Tam O'shanter would have been made of wool and would lie much flatter than this one.

A Tam O'shanter is basically a beret with a pom-pom on top.

The khaki cap here (or similar) was introduced in 1915 for wear in the trenches by Scottish infantry serving on the Western Front. This came to be known as the 'Tam o' Shanter' later abbreviated to 'ToS' by the army.

South American General

This hat made me think of some South American Military General, but it is probably nothing of the sort

Its some form of military field cap but from what army I can't say as it was found at second hand market

I've scrolled through hundreds of images of hats trying to pin it down, but when you don't know one military from another finding the correct place to look is hard.

The badge is red white red horizontal stripe which I thought might make it Austrian, but that does not appear to be the case.

The buttons at the front should undo to provide a way holding the cap on in windy weather, but in this case they seem to have a purely decorative function.
