Another Aso Oke Hat

Another Aso Oke Hat, shown worn in various ways.

Also known as Fila Cap the hat is believed to have originated in the 15th Century and is associated with the Yoruba Tribe of Nigeria.

Aso Oke is a handwoven fabric, which has now become the name of the hat, although the fabric came 1st, then hats made of it.

Aso Oke translates to Top Cloth in English.

Aso Oke Hat

An Aso Oke Hat is a Nigerian men's cap.

Also known as a Fila hat.

Mostly worn with traditional attire, this hat has spread in popularity across other parts of Western Africa

The cap is normally worn tilted to one side with the crown folded over but can be worn in a variety of other ways to suit the wearer's style.

The hat folds down flat for storage, similar to some military field caps.

Glengarry hat

I found this bargain Scottish Glengary Hat on Etsy

Made of wool and excellent quality, it features a small pompom in the dip of the crown and black ribbon ready to receive a badge, plume or broach.

The Glengarry hat became the standard hat of Scottish regiments in the British Army around 1860.

Apparently, in the military, the hat should be worn steeply angled, something I did not do in these photos. When I look at other photos however most people seem to wear it straight like me.

A must for anyone who plays Bagpipers I think.

Jinnah Cap

Jinnah cap which can is also be known as a Karakul hat

The hat is similar to forage caps as they are peaked and folds flat when taken off The Karakul worn in Russia is made of the same fur but is cylindrical/pillbox shaped rather than peaked liked the

The Jinnah cap is named after Muhammad Ali Jinnah the founding father of Pakistan who wore one as did many politicians in Pakistan

The hat was also worn by William Hartnell, the first Dr Who and Mr Khan on the TV Series Citizen Khan. The President of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai is also often seen wearing one.

Traditionally made from the fur of Persian Lambs, but nowadays more often from faux fur, like the one I'm wearing.

Karakul directly translates to black fur in the Uzbek Language, Karakul or Qaraqul are a breed of Persian sheep.

Dancing Pallbearers Hat

This hat or rather the dancing pallbearers that wear it gained fame after BBC news feature

According to Wikipedia the pallbearers who are from Ghana are locally referred to as the 'Nana Otafrija Pallbearing and Waiting Service.

The black hat is a typical foldable military field cap in its shape

I have no idea if this hat has an origin outside its fame as a hat worn by the dancing pallbearers, but I can only find it against cosplay adverts

This hat came to me via a friend who knows I collect hats and was enjoying the pallbearer memes on youtube.

GI Side Cap

This is reproduction WW2 American GI side cap

Apparently GI originally meant military equipment made from galvanised iron in WW1, but eventually became anything that was army general issue or government issue and on from that became a word to describe a soldier from the United States of America.

This cap sport 3 stars which means I'm a commander.

This style of hat in the US can also be known as a Campaign cap, flight cap, garrison hat, fore-and-aft cap, envelope cap, overseas cap. It also has some less polite names one being piss-cutter.

Side Cap

A side cap is a fold-able military cap with straight sides, no brim and hollow crown which when worn forms a very distinctive shape.

In the UK its officially known as field service cap, in the US its called a garrison cap or flight cap.

The best feature of this cap is can easily be folded into a pocket, over the belt or under the shoulder strap of a military uniform.

This cap sports a Russian badge so probably from a Russian unit but since I found it at cat boot I no idea for sure.
