Purple Beret

A purple beret is ideal for a flamboyant character, definitely not a military beret or one you could wear to start a revolution.

This beret was added to our lrp crew kit by one of the refs Amy.

Made from nice soft felt with little felt cord in the center that is common to many non-military berets

Fur Beret

This is basically a fur beret picked up from a charity shop, probably ladies hat originally but no labels will never know for sure, but it works for me.

A very comfortable hat, the brim has a wide slightly elastic band which makes it an easy fit.

Following a classic beret shape where the soft fabric overhangs the brim and lies almost flat on the head.

The fabric is not fabric in this case but animal skin and the hat as no lining just leather of the animal skin stitched to form the shape, with its fur on the outside. The brim itself is made from a wide strip of elasticated jersey like fabric which remains hidden from view as it clings to the head.

Librarian Hat

I have named this hat a Librarians hat, as I think it has a scholarly look however it's not mortar board which is a hat most associated with scholars.

A basic cotton cone of fabric with an elasticated brim to hold it comfortably and firmly on the head

The hat is decorated with decorative fabric tape/bias binding/trim.

This is a version of a Nightcap, perhaps a bit baggier than normal.

Feathered headpiece

This feathered headpiece is based on 1920’s Flapper Headband.

It was advertised as  1920s Great Gatsby Headband Carnival headpiece.

However, it was actually intended to be used to provide an additional imposing item for an Egyptian based culture as in the photo below.

Combined with the feather collar and bit of jewellery it gave to look and cost less than five pounds.

Crash Helmet

Crash helmets or motorcycle helmets are designed to protect the users from head injury.

Wearing a helmet when riding a motorbike is mandatory in the UK and they have to be designed to comply with safety and build standards.

Since the introduction of helmets, they have reduced head injury by nearly 70% and death by over 40% they have even believed to have reduced spinal damage.

Helmets can vary in design from open face pudding basin shape to full all round enclosed helmet with a visor like this one.
This helmet also includes vents and a drop down internal sun visor.

I don't own or ride a motor bike I purchased these helmets for part of a set of sci-fi space suits costumes as below.

Interesting fact (maybe) wearing a white helmet reduces your chance of road accident by 25% compared to a black helmet, is that because those with white helmets are the more sensible road user or because they can be seen easier?

Nefertiti Hat

This home made hat is based on the Nefertiti hat/crown

Nefertiti was a Queen of Egypt from 1370 BC to 1330 BC

This hat was made as a lrp prop and not historically accurate in any shape or form, plus its made of cardboard and felt.

To make this hat I made a basic paper pattern by trial and error and then transferred it to some thicker card.

Lots of glue and staples later I got the basic shape.

Which I then covered in felt and gold leather look fabric.

before finally glueing on some gem cake decorations.

Below in use
