Quilted Cap

This quilted peaked hat is little unusual as the crown sit quite high, like a baseball for someone with a lot of hair.

I found this hat in a Sue Ryder charity shop in their retro section, it was with sited female apparel but to me it looks pretty unisex.

The hat sits comfortably and holds its shape well.

Carry On Up the Revolution

This is what called a Barge cap or Breton Cap  (Not to be confused with a Breton Hat which is a totally different hat shape)

Its also known as fiddler cap, Lenin cap, skipper cap, or mariner's cap, although that depends on if they have embroidery on the headband or peak.

Normally made of thick wool to provide the main stiffness, they are always peaked, they have firm wide headband, and usually come in black or navy blue.

Worn by 20th C merchant navy, barge owners and northern European factory workers.

The Fiddler cap name came about because of the film Fiddler on the Roof where the main character Topol wear one.

They came in to use in big way in Tsarists Russia due to the banning of Jewish style head ware.

Worn with with a black scarf it creates a ideal early 20th Century workers revolutionary look.

French Foreign Legion Hat

This is a reproduction Kepi Hat from a ex BBC drama prop box and cost me £2

The Kepi hat is most commonly associated with the French army, french police or american civil war.

The badge, colours and style of this one as far is as I can tell make it a copy of a WWII French Foreign Legion Kepi Hat.

The term Kepi is french word which respelled from German word Kappe, which means Cap.

Yes M'Lady

This a black peaked cap is one I have used as chauffeurs hat

The above photograph was taken when I chauffered my youngest brother to his wedding.

This style of hat is also associated with higher ranking British police officers, postmen but then they come with added badgers and decoration.

Union Army Cap

Union Soldiers Kepi, also called a McClellan Cap according to the Wikipedia

This hat has a square leather peak and sunken round top.

This hat was a present brought back by my Mum from the gift shop in the Abraham Lincoln Museum, when she visited Illinois in America a few weeks ago.

The hats is not a bad quality reproduction apart from the plastic badge on the front.

I'm in the Army now

This Peaked cap is I believe a army officers dress cap.

The hat has no badge or other indication of rank, the lining says made by Moss Bros, it was well worn before I purchased from a Army Surplus depot, but very well made and in good condition.

The hat is made from canvass like fabric with the stiff peak also covered in the same fabric, it has a leather band at the front which can pulled down over the peak and help secure the hat on windy days.

I have had this hat a few years but not yet found opportunity to wear it outside these photos taken for this blog.

I would like to think of this could be used for Dads Army type character.

Peaked cap

A peaked cap as used by many military organisations and the odd civilian services such as the police, post office.

This one is clearly RAF at least that what the hat badge would indicate, a quick search says its airman's no.1 SD hat badge whatever that means.

The visor or peak is made in this case of plastic, but originally the peaks would be polished leather.

Peaked cap also known as Forage Caps, Barrack Covers or Combination Cap.
