Bandana

The Bandana is triangular or square piece of fabric tied around the head mainly for decorative purposes but also serves as a sun screen.

Also known as Kerchief  from handkerchief which it basically is.

Bandana's are usually quite colourful most often red or blue and from paisley pattern fabric and they can be tied around the neck or used to tie the hair back.

The bandana is often associated with American gang culture, the colour of the bandana identifying particular gang affiliation.

Hexagonal Hat

This is one of those hats that falls into the category unknown, from a theatrical production, its has a Arabian Nights feel about it.

The hexagonal shape of this soft head covering is also odd, so far I've not found any images of anything similar to it.

It sits uncomfortable because of its design, resting too high on the crown of your head, but that adds to its unique look.

It also could have been for a male or female character, it seems to suit both.

Mind Machine

This is the Cognizance Interception Contrivance.

Made as a prop from bits of a Cyberman mask, vacuum cleaner, cutlery drainers, door knobs, bird feeders and lots of other odds and ends

The device is designed to intercept telepathic communication between demons, however it gives you a bit of headache.

Professor Arlington Periwinkle-Smythe is shown here demonstrating its use

Powered lightning combustion tubes the unfortunate a lack of demons with telepathy resulted in no evidence of devices competency,

It does blow dry wet hair as a extra feature.

Wigs are not my thing

Wigs are not for me.

Of the few wigs I have for Larp, all are cheap fancy dress quality, so they don't fit or cover my head well, but they suit what I need.

The trouble with wigs for me is I have a ginger/grey beard, which means I need to find a colour that matches or they just look wrong.

In these photos I've digitally altered my beard colour to match the wig, in the field a can of joke shop spray hair colour would do the same thing.

I tried on a quality wig once and if it was the better colour I might have just been tempted to spend the hundred pounds plus.

With no knowledge you can see and feel the difference in a wig much more easily than you can in hats.

My advice on wigs is buy a Hat.

The Turban

Turbans or what is a length of cloth wound around the head.

Simple they are not, there are multiple ways of tying them, different lengths of fabric, patterns, colours etc. creating a big variety of looks.

My way of tying a turban was taught by visitor from North Africa but they are traditional headgear all the way through Arabic lands across to India and Indonesia as well as North and other parts Africa some like the Sikhs wear them for religious reason and they all do a far better job than me who just wear them very occasionally to represent some fantasy culture in larp.

Other names for turban I have seen pagri, blangkon, saraki, jamandani, keffiyeh, kufiya, ghutrah, shemagh, ḥaṭṭah, mashadah, sudra, chafiye. cemedanî.

I have 2 lengths of fabric I keep for specifically for turbans, both about 3 meters long and just under a meter wide you can get away with shorter but you start to loose shape and struggle to tie them, most fabric for turbans is even longer.
